Our Favorite Birthday Freebies That Don't Make You Sign Up
Not every birthday reward needs an app download or email opt-in. These offers are claimed with a photo ID, a conversation with your server, or a quick visit in-store.
Loyalty programs are useful, but they come with a cost: an email address that will be marketed to for years and, increasingly, an app you probably don't want. The offers below stayed on our shortlist because they don't ask for either. You show up, you show ID, and you get the thing.
Sit-down restaurants
- Denny's: A free Build Your Own Grand Slam on your birthday when you dine in and show valid photo ID at participating locations.
- The Keg: Ask your server on your birthday about the birthday dessert, typically with the purchase of an entrée.
- The Cheesecake Factory: Let your server know it's your birthday to receive a complimentary slice of cheesecake with a dine-in purchase.
Quick-service and specialty
- Chung Chun: Follow on social media and show ID on your birthday for a free birthday rice dog at participating locations.
- LEGO Store: Kids can visit a LEGO Store during their birthday month for a free Minifigure; availability varies by store.
Two caveats to plan around: participation varies by location, so always confirm with your nearest store the day before. And 'no signup' does not always mean 'no purchase': dine-in birthday desserts often require an entrée purchase, and that's not a scam, it's the deal.
